The Hospital, as in hospitality, which the Chapel is a part of was built in 1676 by Sir William the local land-owner and who was also the Lord Mayor of London 1668/69.
He built the Hospital to provide hospitality and schooling for 10 girls and 10 boys (neglected/orphans) with housing for 10 aged men and 10 aged women.

Plaque over Chapel Entrance
